Celebrate 60th Wedding Anniversary |

A beautiful and lively
reception in honor of Jack and Anne Elliott's 60th wedding
anniversary was held after services on November 11, 2006.
Guests enjoyed cake and punch, along with a wide variety of
finger foods, plus a video chronicle of the Elliott's married
life.
UCG East Texas pastor Ken Treybig read a moving tribute to Jack and Anne

East Texas Congregation Hosts Winter 2006
Basketball Weekend |

January 29, 2006
Area teens and families enjoyed a busy
weekend January 28-29 as the East Texas congregation hosted a
regional basketball weekend.
Activities kicked off with Sabbath services at the Big Sandy High School
auditorium, with guest speaker Gary Petty, followed by a potluck
dinner and great fellowship.
Later, teens attended a dance at the Gladewater Methodist Life Center. A
teen fundraiser ("Power Cooking Class with Martha Sappington")
was also held at the Life Center.
On Sunday, a full day of basketball games were scheduled at the Gladewater
High School.

Dean and Wanda Klepfer,
longtime Church of God members and residents of Big Sandy,
celebrated 50 years of marriage June 25, 2005. A reception in
their honor was held after services the same day.
UCG East Texas pastor Ken Treybig read a tribute to Dean and Wanda during

East Texas Congregation Breaks Ground For New Church Building |

After more than three years of
talking, planning and fundraising - and more talking, planning
and fundraising, the East Texas (Gilmer) congregation of the
United Church of God, an International Association, moved
one step closer to realizing its dream of having a local church
building. On Sunday, November 7, just north of Big Sandy on Hwy
155, a groundbreaking ceremony was held to mark the commencement
of construction on the new facility.
After a welcome by Mr. Ken Treybig, pastor of the East Texas
congregations, Mr. Les McCullough opened the ceremony with
prayer, asking for God's blessing on the project. Mr. Treybig
then introduced Lynda Childress, mayor of Big Sandy, who
welcomed UCG to Big Sandy. Next, Mr. Scott Hammer, son of
the late Buck Hammer, reminisced about his father's and
grandfather's involvement with the Church of God in Big Sandy
over the years - and dedicated the ceremony to the memory of his
dad. Mr. Treybig then commented on the plans for the building,
and recognized several individuals for their input and help in
the planning stage.
Finally, the building committee "broke ground" on the site, officially
starting the project that will soon become the new home of the
United Church of God East Texas Gilmer congregation.
